Elat, on the southern tip of Israel, is a resort town and an oasis. In the southern Negev highlands and the Arava Desert, the city is Israel's gateway to Africa and East Asia.

Each year Elat draws Israeli and European vacationers to its beaches and coastal attractions. Points of interest include the Coral World Underwater Observatory, which has a viewing room built within a coral reef.
