Visitors to Ambergris Caye are greeted by the well worn sign: "Welcome to San Pedro, where you won't be a stranger for long." The experienced Caribbean traveler will recognize San Pedro immediately. In some ways, it's the Caribbean of 20 or 30 years ago, before the boom in international travel. A throw-back to the days before cruise ships began making stops at more and more Caribbean islands.
The town is a postcard setting. Small, colorfully painted houses sit on sand streets nestled beside the clear turquoise sea. Coconut palms sway and rustle in the gentle, cooling trade winds.
