A short drive south of Los Angeles sits Newport Beach, a picturesque, 22-square-mile community of ocean and bay. In fact, the city boasts the most restaurants with water view dining in Orange County.
Newport Beach includes several smaller islands, most notably Balboa Island. Once a sand pit, Balboa Island was filled just before World War I with plans later calling for the addition of roads and houses. Parcels of land that once cost $250 now go for hundreds of thousands of dollars. The theme chosen for naming the streets - precious jewels - seems appropriate.
