Thirty miles south of Cape Cod lies the island of Nantucket. Its natural and historic beauty are unparalleled.
Nantucket was the center of the world's whaling industry for more than 150 years, and was honored for this distinction. In 1966, the U.S. Department of the Interior proclaimed Nantucket as a National Historic Landmark. This designation, along with the work of the islands' many organizations, may explain why Nantucket is so perfectly preserved.
