Martha's Vineyard is the largest resort island in New England, and also the most well known. But just who is Martha?Legend has it that Bartholomew Gosnold, an English explorer, in 1602 came upon the island and found wild grapes growing. He named the island for these grapes and for his daughter, Martha. Today there are six towns on Martha's Vineyard: Chilmark, West Tisbury, Vineyard Haven, Oak Bluffs, Edgartown and Aquinnah, or Gay Head.
