San Miguel de Allende is a beautiful, colonial city. Its beginnings trace to the village planned in 1555 to serve as a watch station along the road between Mexico City and the rich silver mines of Zacatecas. Because of this, San Miguel began attracting the cultured and wealthy, many of whom built impressive palaces there. Today's San Miguel remains a peaceful artist's colony with cobblestoned streets, pastel colonial buildings with flower filled patios, and an air of tranquility that stimulates the mind and pleases the soul.
