Each region of Peru provides visitors plenty of outdoor adventures and scenic stops. The nation is divided into three distinctive landscapes: costa (coastal), sierra and selva (jungle). The mountainous area lies in the central portion of the country, separating the Amazonian Basin to the east and coastal areas to the west.
Beginning in the Andes Mountains, visitors can trek along Peru’s Inca Trail, a route through the 13,000-foot Andean Pass that leads ultimately to the ruins of the ancient Inca city of Machu Picchu.
