It may have been a hundred years since the days when the sun never set on the British Empire, but England presents itself very well today on the world stage as both a political power and a tourist destination.
For many travelers, England brings to mind images of a classic monarchy. Many of yesterday's 'divine' rulers — Henry VIII, Queen Elizabeth I, Mary Queen of Scots, Queen Victoria — are historical household names today. Although the modern Queen wields little political power, pageantry and symbolism are alive and well in England.
